CAIRO Egypt's state news agency says a hard-line Islamist preacher has
been arrested for slandering a famous actress by accusing her of "practicing
prostitution."In December, Abdullah Badr was sentenced to a year in prison
and fined for his remarks about Elham Chahine on el-Hafiz TV, which
is associated with the ultraconservative Salafi movement.MENA says his appeal
was rejected earlier this week and police arrested him Wednesday in the
Delta Sharqia province after he failed to turn himself in.Chahine sued Badr
after he accused her on his show of "practicing prostitution" and teaching
Egyptian women how to "be immoral and commit adultery." His remarks came
after she criticized radical Islamists for their view of the arts.Chahine's
lawyer complained the actress had been exposed to "insults, cursing and
humiliation."
This April 2013 image shows Yosemite Valley at Yosemite National Park in
California.APTwo months after the sequester hit, the Department of Interior
continues to warn of coast-to-coast cuts for the country's national parks
-- and even the partial shutdown of a critical flood warning system. But
Sen. Tom Coburn says there's "no shortage of potential savings," pointing
out that the department is nevertheless spending millions on newly created
monuments and landmarks. The Oklahoma Republican, who has been hounding federal
agencies for weeks about questionable spending under the cloud of sequester,
aired his grievances with the Interior Department in a letter to Secretary
Sally Jewell Tuesday."It makes little sense to expand the number of sites
at the same time the budget of every other park is being
cut and visitors are being turned away from visiting the White House,"
Coburn wrote.Coburn pointedly questioned department efforts to name new
sites and expand others -- decisions that will contribute to the department's
annual costs. Coburn said the National Park Service has designated 13 new
historic landmarks and three new monuments since the sequester hit March
1. One of those landmarks, he noted, is a whiskey distillery --
the George T. Stagg Distillery in Kentucky. Other newly created landmarks
include the Connecticut home of abolitionist Harriet Beecher Stowe, the
historic bridge crossed by civil rights marchers in Selma, Ala., and an

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">BURKESVILLE, Ky. A southern Kentucky coroner says the mother of a
2-year-old girl fatally shot by her 5-year-old brother had just stepped
away from the children when the shooting occurred.Cumberland County Coroner
Gary White tells WKYT-TV that the mother said she had been outside
on a porch for "no more than three minutes.""It's a Crickett," White
told the Lexington Herald Leader. "It's a little rifle for a kid.The
little boy's used to shooting the little gun."He continued, "Just one of
those crazy accidents."Kentucky State Police say the girl was shot Tuesday
afternoon in Cumberland County and was later pronounced dead.Cumberland
County Coroner Gary White told the Lexington Herald-Leader the boy received
the .22-caliber rifle as a gift and is used to shooting it.
He said the rifle was kept in a corner and the family
didn't realize a shell was left inside it.White says the shooting will
be ruled accidental. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
For people seeking an energy boost, companies are increasing their offerings
of foods with added caffeine. A new caffeinated gum may have gone
too far.The Food and Drug Administration said Monday that it will investigate
the safety of added caffeine and its effects on children and adolescents.
The agency made the announcement just as Wrigley was rolling out Alert
Energy Gum, a new product that includes as much caffeine as a
half a cup of coffee in one piece and promises "the right
energy, right now."Michael Taylor, FDA's deputy commissioner of foods, indicated
that the proliferation of new foods with caffeine added -- especially the
gum, which he equates to "four cups of coffee in your pocket"
-- may even prompt the FDA to look closer at the way
all food ingredients are regulated. The agency is already investigating the
safety of energy drinks and energy shots, prompted by consumer reports of
illness and death.Taylor said Monday that the only time FDA explicitly approved
the added use of caffeine in a food or drink was in
the 1950s for colas. The current proliferation of caffeine added to foods
is "beyond anything FDA envisioned," Taylor said."It is disturbing," Taylor
told The Associated Press. "We're concerned about whether they have been
adequately evaluated."Caffeine has the regulatory classification of "generally
recognized as safe," or GRAS, which means manufacturers can add it to
products and then determine on their own whether th
