I recently uploaded a ruptime daemon for linux to sunsite. It is a stream
socket daemon that works with or without inetd, please send any bugs/ideas
th me amigus@cs.mun.ca. This is the first released version.

mun-ruptime v0.8 is an ruptime daemon for use with or without inetd. The
idea came from a sysadmin on my local campus who said it would be of great
convieniece to him if he could 'rup' a linux box as he does an Sun machine
on campus to check on it's status.

mun-ruptime v0.8 basically returns the same output as the convenctional
uptime found on linux machines now but does so though a stream socket, It
has all the features of any other daemon found for use with inetd and
without.

When running under inetd much of the work is done by inetd so it just
returns uptime info. But it can also be run independently and behave much
the same, (ie. system logging etc.). This allows a non-privilaged system
user to load the daemon on a non-privledged port to obtain the same results.
I use it presently in this manner so i can know quickly which linux boxes
are in use and which is the best for me to use.

So in summary it is useful in that any user on a system can easily obtain
uptime information on any linux box. As i said this is my first program,
so it is quiet simple but I hope realativly bug free. Ideas for future
releases are welcome.

Thanks.
