There is nothing wrong with the mail server. It had a day-long outage
about a month ago, but even that should not have caused any requests
to be lost, just delayed.
If you are not receiving responses, then either (a) your mail is not
reaching the mail server, or (b) your mail header does not contain a
return address that the mail server can understand.
I suggest putting a "path address" command in your requests to the
server, where "address" is replaced by a return address which you know
will work. If you do not receive any response to a request with that
address in it, then please let me know and I will check to see if the
request ever got to the server.
By the way, you should be using mail-server@rtfm.mit.edu rather than
mail-server@pit-manager.mit.edu (although pit-manager will still
work). Also, questions about problems with the server should be sent
to owner-mail-server@rtfm.mit.edu, not to postmaster@MIT.EDU.
