The problem is that the group was created as a bogus group, due to a
script on the server that checks for groups that have more than five
sections to the group's name. This script was installed to cut down on
the number of bogus newsgroups that we actually carry, since one of the
news maintainers decided that no legal newsgroup name would have more
than five parts. This means that since rn hadn't previously seen the
group, it added it to your .newsrc. However, it immediately noticed
that the group was x'ed out (notation for a newsgroup that you don't
want to carry nor to be created) in the server's active file and checked
the rest of your .newsrc, which is rn's specified behaivior in such
situations.
