I believe that at least one program that displays a menu of available
newsgroups and allows the user to select, in a useful fashion, which
ones to subscribe to, has been posted to the net. Perhaps we should
modify rn's newsetup script to use that program when creating a new
.newsrc file, rather than subscribing to everything.

Of course, that still leaves us out in the cold when it comes to doing
something about gnus. I find it hard to imagine that *no one* has
written elisp code for doing useful newsgroup selection.

Of course, the easiest solution would be to modify rn and gnus so that
they subscribe the user to nothing but news.announce.newusers,
news.answers and news.newusers.questions by default.

In any case, we *should* fix gnus so that it knows how to create the
.newsrc more quickly for a new user.

No, I'm not volunteering.
