Even better, there's a utility that handles practically all the mac
encodings and compression types. Unix source is available via anonymous FTP
at rascal.ics.utexas.edu:/misc/mac/unix-utilities/macutil. Maybe someone
could get this onto athena somewhere...

from the readme file:

Macunpack will unpack PackIt, StuffIt, Diamond, Compactor, most
StuffItClassic/StuffItDeluxe, and all Zoom and LHarc/MacLHa archives.
Also it will decode files created by BinHex5.0, MacBinary, UMCP,
Compress It, ShrinkToFit, MacCompress and DiskDoubler.
