When I select a newsgroup that has more than a handful of
msgs waiting, there's a considerable wait before the list of
messages appears. Why not get the first 20-30 messages, and
present the list to me, while the rest of the traffic goes on
in the background?
Because xrn is a single-threaded process, and single-threaded
processes can't do two things at the same time, i.e. display messages
and get new ones.
Note that when you read the "next newsgroup" that xrn expects you to
go to, it will often have already prefetched the articles in the
newsgroup. However, it can't do that when you select a newsgroup
randomly from the newsgroup selection level.
