Hello, SIPB!

I received the following message in my mail today. Please note that:
	- I am sending to this set of mailing lists at the suggestion
of Jonathan Kamens, since I wasn't sure who should field it.
	- IRC isn't kerberized, so there is no guarantee that the name
mentioned belongs to the perpetrator; hacking is a possibility.
	- I have sent a copy to Peter Roden so that he knows this complaint
has occurred, and can correlate it with other kinds of complaints,
should there be others against this username.

One of your users, who goes by the name of John D. Fisko and uses the
login "nissan", has become a significant problem on IRC during the last month.
He has performed numerous "autokick runs" on at least one very popular channel.
These "autokick runs" consist of attempts to eject everyone, except himself,
from the channel. Sometimes his attempts can be thwarted by the other users
on that channel, but he has also succeeded in some ocasions. In the past week
alone, he has made at least 8-10 attempts at autokick runs. He has also begun
using faked logins to further hinder the other users attempts to control his
disruptive actions. In addition, he has sent private messages to novice users,
asking them to type in certain commands, which they do not understand, in order
to acomplish the same thing. John Fisko's actions have reached a point where
they impair other's ability to make effective use of IRC.

Please investigate these actions, and take whatever steps necessary to
prevent Mr. Fisko from continuing his diruptions of IRC. We ask that you
eliminate his access to IRC, or if that is not possible cancel his account, and
that these restrictions remain in effect until such time that he decides to
cease his autokick runs.

All of the people listed below have agreed to have their names included
as persons in support of this letter, and may be contaced for verification, or
if you have any questions. Thank You.

Hello.

I'm sorry that you're being inconvenienced by what appears to be a member of
the MIT community. I have forwarded your message to the SIPB, the group
that maintains MIT's IRC server. They should be getting back to you in
a few days or so, indicating what action they have been able to take to
alleviate the problem.

I would appreciate it, by the way, if you would let me know how you got the
two email addresses to which you sent your letter? These names aren't much
publicized outside of MIT; I'm glad you chose a place that is able to
respond to matters of this nature. (That's me: kevles@athena.)

My apologies for any inconvenience that the situation is causing.
