This evening I was trying to edit a file I had already
created with xfig on binkley, and this is what happened.

I started up xfig selected the option "edit file..." gave it the file
name hit return and in a second or two, it crashed. I got the message:

 Floating exception xfig (core dumped)

I tried the exact same thing again. It dumped core again. I tried to
start it up on the command line, It let me pop up the window, but as
it was reading the file in, it dumped core once again.

I suspect this is caused, at least in part, by the size of the file.
The file has 104 objects. I tried to edit two other xfig files of
mine, one had 31 objects, the other 20 odd, both of them worked. I
could read them in by either calling them up with the menu or by
placing them on the command line.

Further research showed that the RT version seems to deal with the
file just fine. This is not all that surprising since I created the
file on an RT.

I have removed the core files but I have placed a copy of the
offending file in my home directory on charon.

/charon/mit/nlgilman/kill_xfig

have fun.
