The problem with nn is that it doesn't work well for remote
newsreading, since it needs a large index file to work. Some effort
was made to get it to work, but it's a very difficult problem if you
don't have a local news spool. The news maintainers eventually gave
up trying.
So, I'm sorry to say that you won't be able to use nn on athena.
