This is partly a chicken-and-egg problem.  No one wants to sink a lot of
time into working on a machine that isn't definitely ours.  Lately, I've
been working on bringing up the latest gdb and gcc (1.95), with help
from Ken.  I also think that having an 80?86 handy to play with the new
BSD stuff would be a good thing.  I, for one, would like to see the
machine's state change from 'limbo' to something known, and in a
reasonable amount of time.
