I have never had the problems you describe, either with rereading
messages I've already read or with accidentally subscribing to all
newsgroups, and I use both xrn and rrn very frequently.
Do you ever run them at the same time? You shouldn't do that. Do
you always quit from both xrn and rrn before logging out?
