1) Problem running SIPB files
There are two probable explanations for why you are having these
probems. First, you may not be attaching SIPB to your workstation
each time you login. You may be getting lucky sometimes and logging
into a workstation that already has SIPB attached. If you use SIPB
programs often, you might want to put "attach sipb" or "attach sipb &"
in your .login file.
Second, you may already be attaching SIPB, but only *after* setting
the path variable in your .cshrc file. If you attach sipb and then
still can't run the programs, you probably have to type "rehash" to
get the C-shell to rebuild its internal command tree.
2) .forward doesn't work
In timesharing, all users' files were stored on a timesharing machine,
and their mail went to the same machine. Therefore, when the mail
daemon got a message, it would look in the user's home directory to
see if a .forward exists, and forward to that address if it did exist.
However, since Athena is no longer in timesharing, the machine which
gets your mail for you knows nothing at all about where your files are
located, so it can't check to see if you have a .forward file.
If you want to get your Athena mail forwarded somewhere, send the
address to Carla Fermann, the accounts administrator. Her username is
carla.
3) Supdup from Lispm
I am afraid that dialup right now is your only option. It is
presently the only public-access Athena machine that is open for
rlogin and telnet from outside Athena.
