From: pfkrause@ATHENA.MIT.EDU To: bug-sipb@ATHENA.MIT.EDU Cc: pfkrause@wheaties.mit.edu Date: Sat, 20 Aug 88 14:22:04 EDT Hi. I'm a relatie novice at Athena/Unix/X, although I've been getting better now that OZ went away. After a couple of weeks of terminal bashing, I still have some real problems. 1) I seem to be having trouble adding /mit/sipb/...bin to my search path. Actually, that's not what's happening, because my $path is currently: . /mit/pfkrause/vaxbin /mit/sipb/vaxbin /mit/watchmaker/vaxbin /srvd/patch /usr/athena /bin/athena /usr/bin/X /usr/new /usr/new/mh/bin /usr/ucb /bin /usr/bin /usr/games /site/usr/local /mit/athenadoc /mit/consult/vaxbin /mit/games/vaxbin Nontheless, sometimes I can't seem to run SIPB files. I get the message: discuss: command not found for example. But only sometimes! That's right, only about 2 in every 3 login sessions have this problem. It seems that if I logout/login enough times, it will go away, although I've not tried this because it takes so long to log in. What could be causing this problem? What I can I do about it? Is there a debugger that I can use to locate the problem. If so, what is it and where are the instructions to it? BTW, my files are world readable (I think) if someone cares to take a look. 2) Why doesn't my .forward file forward my mail anymore? 3) Is there anywhere on Athena that I can Supdup to from my Lispm? Currently, I'm telnetting to Dialup with a vt100 emulator, but this is not the best solution for several reasons. I could probably even run xterm on my Lispm if I could figure out what to connect it to (it seems like an abuse to do this on Dialup). Also, is there ANY way to access the contents of my locker without logging in first? thanks, -paul
