We maintain zephyr internally, but haven't had any plans for a new
external release for a while now. We also haven't been making any
ambitious changes, either; we're sort of hoping that we can come up
with a replacement based on the IETF's IMPP (Instant Messaging and
Presence Protocol).

Our development code base is available (though not in any particularly
convenient fashion) at http://web.mit.edu/source/athena/lib/zephyr; it
depends on et and ss in the same directory. Since we don't make
ambitious changes any more, that code base tends to work pretty well
at any given time, but it's not a release and it's not supported.

Zephyr 2.1 beta is horribly broken and not worth trying.
