Problems with zephyrd's?

We have had a problem crop up where for some reason certain hosts
can not contact zephyrd anymore. We have 5 zephyr servers running,
2 at our central site, and 3 at remote locations.
For example:
zocalo-83: zstat
Hostmanager stats: zocalo.spd.analog.com
No response after 10 seconds.
I have tried "zhm -r host1 host2"
to no avail...
zeus-193: zstat
Hostmanager stats: zeus.spd.analog.com
HostManager protocol version = ZEPH0.2
Current server = thor.spd.analog.com
Items in queue: 0

I have also tried the following:
zocalo-84: zctl
ZCTL $Revision: 1.25 $ (Protocol ZEPH0.2) - Type '?' for a list of commands.
zctl: hm_flush
zctl: flush_locs
zctl (flush_locs): Hostmanager not responding while flushing locations
Sometimes I can clean up the problem by killing all the zephyrd's
and restarting them, and sometimes not. (Usually, I have to stop
all zephyr processes on all clients, and then kill and restart
all the zephyrd's .. effectively starting from scratch).
Is there some better way I can get things working again?
