zwgc backgrounds itself at startup time unless you run it with the
-nofork option.  Explicitly backgrounding zwgc can cause (relatively
minor) problems and should be avoided.

A process gets a SIGTTOU when it writes to a TTY while not in the
foreground process group.  Normally zwgc avoids this signal.  I have
no idea why it wouldn't be doing that for you, nor have I ever seen
this problem before.
