It seems to me that the guys at stanford did two things:
1) customize the installation stuff. This is intended to be
customized, so I don't see including his changes. They will likely be
wrong at some third site, as our defaults were at his.
2) put a few ifdefs in so that the right think will happen by default
more of the time. This seems reasonable to put into our sources.
When are we going to come out with a new release? Lots of things have
changed and improved. We shouldn't be the only people using the new
stuff.
