Leaving the server compiled with -DDEBUG running in verbose-logging
mode was a big mistake.
I've put on arilinn a server compiled without -DDEBUG. It's in
verbose-logging mode, but without -DDEBUG it only logs about enough
information to see when and why clients were deleted from the
database. It should be able to keep up this way, since it will get
little or no other message traffic, but if it has problems, try "kill
-USR2 ###" first; kill it off only if that doesn't help it recover.
