t r u t h o u t | It might be hard to believe given the grim headlines we a=
ll see every day, but I'm an optimist. So what stops me from sinking into d=
espair, given the woeful state of today's political institutions and Americ=
a's disappointing media discourse?
First of all, there's the fact that despair is not an option - the stakes a=
re much too high for that. Secondly, I've witnessed the incredible potentia=
l power that lies in ordinary people when they come together in solidarity =
and resolve to fight injustice.
Millions of people are working to create a better world, through actions th=
at range from the big, bold and dramatic to much smaller everyday decisions=
. Not all of it is seen, but it all counts.
I believe that values-based independent journalism and in-depth political d=
iscussion has a crucial role to play in this effort. Our goal at Truthout i=
s to inform and inspire the people working for change. We're lucky to have =
a community of readers like you, who share this belief and are willing to p=
ut your money where your values are to support us.
