t r u t h o u t | Anyone who watched the struggle in Washington, DC last we=
ek might think that the people who manipulate the system for their own gree=
d have lost for now. But the system and its rules are "fixed" - fixed to ac=
quiesce to that same greed that crashed the American economy and, very near=
ly, the world's.
The latest budget and debt ceiling crises may be over - the basic workings =
of the federal government beginning again, the Affordable Care Act survivin=
g intact - but plenty of damage has been done. The American economy has los=
t $24 billion, and in real terms, families across the country were hit hard=
, especially federal workers and those who rely on vital government program=
s to survive.
Can this fixed system ever be changed to really represent the dreams of the=
common person? It can, if we get to the bottom of these systemic inequitie=
s.
At Truthout, we believe it's important not just to report about crisis and =
disaster, but also to provide a forum for the sharing of new ideas. We expo=
se and explain what it takes to reform the corruption built into the curren=
t system - and we provide inspirations for a brighter future where everyone=
has a chance.
By making a tax-deductible donation to support Truthout's work, you're not =
just funding independent investigative journalism. You are investing in a h=
ome for urgent and creative ideas in today's "fixed" world.
