Good evening,
I'm writing today to inform you of an upcoming organizational change
that affects IS&T's Data Center Operations Services Team (DOST). Due
to the changing nature of IT work and the needs of the MIT community
and IS&T's data center clients, we have elected to dissolve this team
in its current form. This decision was made in recognition of the
diminishing work in the area over the past several years as IS&T has
implemented newer technologies and transitioned its data centers to a
more fully automated, "lights out" model; much of the team's original
charter has been reduced as IS&T has virtualized servers,
migrated to automated backups, implemented centralized, automated
monitoring, and completed other modernization efforts.
This change affects four IS&T staff. Services provided by DOST will
remain in place and will be provided by the Enterprise Systems
Administration team. Transition activities are already underway and
will continue for the next several months.
We hope to make the transition as transparent as possible to our
community. The dost@mit.edu mailing list as well as the DOST phone
line (x3-7049) will remain in place and should continue to be used
when requesting access to co-location equipment, etc.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or
concerns.
Sincerely,
Garry
