From: lwvanels@ATHENA.MIT.EDU Date: Sun, 30 Jun 91 15:49:09 -0400 To: rel-eng@MIT.EDU Reply-To: lwvanels@MIT.EDU Source: ------ The source can be picked up from /mit/olcdev/src; there's quite a bit of difference from 7.2, so it would probaby be easiest to just replace the whole tree. The shell script /source/athena/usr.athena/xolc.sh should be removed. Some install rules may have to be changed, once the directory structure for various platforms is decided upon. Release notes: ---------------------- Xolc, a motif-based client for OLC, is now a supported program in the 7.3 release. Additionally, there is a new motif-based stock answers browser. The primary olc daemon (olcd) is now built on all platforms as part of the release. There are three new clients: olist, oshow, and oreplay. These are used to provide a faster and cleaner command line interface. There are two new system daemons: rpd and polld. These are used to support the new clients and to provide information on the login status of the users. Clients using versions prior to version 4 of the protocol are no longer supported by the server; this will effect clients compiled before 01 October 1989; (client version "2.2b" or lower) New features: * Clients - A "hours" command in olc/olcr to display the hours the office is open. - A "comment -private" command to enter comments in the log only visible to consulants. - The ability to forward/cancel/done questions on the behalf of another consultant, given administrative access. - The ability to ask a question on the behalf of a user. - A "version" command to display the current version of the OLC client and primary daemon. Typical output would be: Server version: Version 3.1: Sun Jun 30 23:59:59 EDT 1991 Client version: 3.1: Sun Jun 30 23:59:59 EDT 1991 * Server - The motd can be entered with a time to automatically start/stop being displayed. - All new motds are logged in a discuss meeting. - There is support for taking incoming questions via mail. - The login status of the users in the queue is checked every 10 minutes. Bug fixes: - The bugs being tracked by QA that have been fixed have been reported back, and are noted in the changes.73 notesfile; information on these are already in the draft release notes.
