I just discovered in the tahoe sources various utilities for verifying man pages. (4.3tahoe/src/man/tools) Included are spelling checkers, cross ref checkers, cknames (checks the .TH line), check .so lines, create links for .so files, a program to regenerate the Table of Contents andPermuted Index. I think I'll run some over our current man pages and see what shows up...
