Last night (5/6), at 9:00 pm, a cable fault occurred in one of the circuits
feeding the campus from the Central Utility Plant. Buildings directly
affected were 16, 56, 68, 54 and 57. The voltage transient associated with
the fault also caused local tripping of buildings E15 and 13 and various
equipment around the campus. Some restoration started immediately, and as
soon as the location of the fault was identified, loop switches were
operated to isolate the faulted section and restore all buildings. As part
of the switching process, the circuit feeding buildings 66, E18, E17 and 32
were interrupted for 1 minute at 11:50 pm, completing the restoration
process.
We urge all laboratories to check their equipment for proper operation this
morning. We regret the disruption, especially for those hit a second time
this week.
