The Tang printer (wg-tang@mulch) is broken.. I traced the exact problem.

First off there was the worse paper jam I've ever seen in the phaser. Several layers of paper where only one paper should pass with lots of fraying not allowing anything to turn. With the help of someone who was down here, we took out the phaser module and cleared away all the paper after much effort.

Unfortunately there is a bigger problem. So people would leave the printer on before I got here even though it would make a horrible noise when on. This noise turns out the have been gears grinding on the interface between the phaser module and the printer. The printer would try to drive the phaser, but the phaser was completely stuck at that time with the massive paper jam. After some investigation we notice some teeth completely gone on the gears that interface the phaser module and the printer. They are going to need to be replaced.

In case I'm using nonstandard terminology the phaser module is the part that slides out of the left door of the printer where the ink is melted onto the paper.
