Whoops, I just realized that I'd talked about this with Lou but never
replied to the originator, megan@mit.edu.  My apologies.

Alas, none of the cluster IBMs currently have functional sound, due to a
bug in the linux kernel.  An updated version of the kernel should be
present in the next Athena release which will fix this problem.

In the meantime, I can offer a totally unsupported but functional
workaround:
1) become root
2) type "rmmod i810_audio"
3) type "insmod /afs/dev/user/amb/i810_audio.o"

This should get things working on that machine until the next reboot.
You might need to log in as root (rather than yourself) to do this.

Again, this isn't officially supported, but I'm willing to answer
any questions you have about it.
