Hello Eleanor,
The Athena Quickstations are designed to remind users that they have been
on for 10 minutes. It does not log anyone off, it just comes up with a
message saying that 10 minutes has elapsed and to please log off. This was
done with the intention to persuade people not to monopolize the machine as
it is intended for quick logins.
By having this machine as a Quickstation, Information Systems (specifically
Academic Computing) assumes the annual fees of this machine. The
alternative is to have the machine assigned to a Department and have the
Department pay the Athena fees which are approximately $700.00 a year. If
MIT Medical prefers this alternative we can easily convert it to a regular
Athena Machine. I would also add that about a year ago we received a
request to convert it to a Quickstation from the Medical Department.
Let us know which way you would prefer to have the machine and we will work
out the details from there. If you have an other questions, please let me know.
