I noticed that Lou closed my case in Casetracker with a note that he had
reprogrammed it and all was now fine. I also noticed someone having trouble
with the pad a few days ago, but then they got in. Finally, I noticed that
another couple people sent mail to hotline after I did about the combo pad.
Given knowledge that Lou does things right, and that something still seems
wrong with the pad, I played with it for a while today and now understand
what's really going on:
The button corresponding to the second digit in the new combination does not
register as being pressed unless you press it hard. It seems that both times
it was reprogrammed, the key must not have been pressed hard enough, and so
the pad accepted the new combination WITHOUT the second digit. This means
that if you press the numbers carefully, you CANNOT get in to the cluster from
that door, however, if you type quickly/gently and don't hit that button hard
enough, the door unlocks. In other words, the combination on the door is
only four digits plus * long! It should be reprogrammed, but at this point
should probably also be either serviced or replaced so that button registers
all the time (note whether the yellow light flashes when you hit it).
