A few minutes ago I was logged in on m56-129-10 and noticed that every
program I ran took an extra half minute (at least that's what it felt
like) to start up, and there was a continual whirring sound seeming to
come from the CD drive. The open/close button on the CD drive wasn't
working, so I paperclipped the drive open and discovered someone's
abandoned CD-R inside. I removed the disc and pushed the drive shut
(the open/close button still didn't work). That stopped the whirring,
but everything was still as slow as before, even though ps -lfe showed
nothing using more than 1% of the processor. I finally rebooted the
machine when my logout command stalled for a long time. Please have a
look at m56-129-10 when you can.

cmihelic@mit.edu thought I'd something more to say.
