It won't work. The printer should be configured with an IP acl
restricting connections to those from the print server, the server won't
accept a binary job, and the firmware update process will ask you for
the write community name, which you don't know.
If you'd like to cold-reset the printer, while it's off the network,
that'll clear its IP acl. You'll need to configure the IP address by
hand, at which point you can put it back on the network, and you'll be
able to get at it.
I don't think just lpr'ing the file will work because the process seems
finicky, but webjetdirect does run on linux (it just doesn't play well
with the unix netscapes).
You'll need to give it an upgrade to both the jet direct firmware,
and the 8150 specific firmware pack.
If you're willing to:
a) follow a process supported by HP, including using an HP supported
client
b) cold reset the printer (on the network), to return it to a standard
configuration, when you're done
c) not bug me about the details of the process
you're welcome to give it a shot.
