Hi Andrea,
Just to be specific, I am from Hardware Services.
Network services is another dept. within I.S.
However, I am sure that its also a concern to them
          as well.
                 Thanks,

Subject: FYI Electrical Power

Greetings to All,
The Main Electrical Substation, located in 10-044 is in the process of being
replaced. It is the sole source of normal power for the Main Group. The
buildings effected are Bldgs 3, 4, 8, 10 and 11. Although this Substation
has served the Institute well since 1916, it is frail and is hanging by a
thread. Over the years many additions, modifications and improprieties have
been made on this distribution equipment. It is impossible to say that a
particular feeder breaker will isolate loads in any one building. Many taps
have been made over these many years and it is time to modernize the
equipment.
This change-out will require a several of shutdowns. Loads will be swung
over to temporary distribution equipment so that demolition can take place.
The old gear will be rigged out and the new gear will be rigged in. Every
effort will be made to minimize interruption of electrical service.
Never-the-less, some customers will be inconvenienced by service
interruption. Shutdowns will occur either off-hours (11:00 pm - 6:00 am) or
on weekends ( probably Sundays). There is a need for all parties to begin
anticipating this work and advanced, detailed notice will be given.
This Electrical Renovation will also include the Emergency Power in these
areas.
This will require a daytime shutdown as the Emergency Power is for Life
Safety and egress lighting.
Let me say that this up-grade of the electrical equipment that serves your
area
has been long in the planning stage and upon its' completion will provide
reliable and efficient operation for generations to come. You many express
concerns or comments directly to me by phone or e-mail.

Hi Andrea,
I am saying o.k. to the advance warning, and will wait for the
actual shutdown notice to be sent to look at the dates & times that are
involved. Right now we have a
few clusters in bldg 4, a few in bldg 10, and a few systems in bldg 11. Is
this going to happen during the semester, or
over t he summer???
