At approximately 7:45 Tuesday evening, 9/25/01, the McCormick Hall
residence and its annex, buildings W4 and W2, lost electrical power.
After an investigation by the Department of Facilities, it was
determined that the transformer which supplies electricity to the
buildings had failed. Service to emergency and life safety systems
was restored almost immediately.
Before the transformer can be replaced, some interim measures must be
taken. For a few days a generator, contained in a 45 foot tractor
trailer truck, will be placed on Amherst Street to supply the
buildings with electrical power. Early next week, a temporary
transformer will be installed on a side walk near McCormick Hall
until the permanent transformer is replaced. The truck and
transformer may cause noise and affect traffic in the surrounding
area.
