the workstation FERD.MIT.EDU is having problems. the machine is an athena
consulting machine, located at the N42 front desk. MIT tag number 345253.
when booted, the console displays:
Boot device: disk File and args:
Short read. 0x2000 chars read.
(the above line repeats about 50 times.)
error reading symbols
Fast Data Access MMU Miss.

nothing i have tried gets it to boot, the error is always the same. it
may need a new motherboard. the machine is not being used for front-line
consulting so it is not urgent. whenever you can get to it will be fine.
