News server upgrades, round 2

The Usenet news server news.mit.edu will be down for software
upgrades on Thursday, Jan 25th from 10:00PM until 1:00AM the
next day (for a total of 3 hours). For the duration of the
outage, news service will be unavailable. Article retention
times should increase considerably after this upgrade.
Prior to the upgrade, starting at 8:00PM, no new articles will
appear on the server until after the outage. Article postings
will be accepted but also will not appear in newsgroups until
the end of the outage.
If all goes well, the server could be back in service before
midnight. Status notifications will be sent to the "consult"
instance.
