The Usenet news server news.mit.edu will be down for a hardware
upgrade on Wednesday, Jan 17th from 10:00PM to midnight; for the
duration of the outage, news service will be unavailable. Discuss
meetings on senator-bedfellow.mit.edu will also be unavailable.
This is the first of two outages for senator-bedfellow to increase
disk space and update the server software.
The news feed server bloom-beacon.mit.edu will be down for server
software upgrades on Thursday, Jan 18th from 10:00PM to midnight.
Since users do not directly connect to this server, the only user
visible effects should be the lack of new news for the duration of
the outage. However, in case of problems, UUCP service and Discuss
meetings on bloom-beacon may be affected.
Status notifications for these outages will be sent to the "consult"
instance.
