From: jud@ATHENA.MIT.EDU To: hotline@ATHENA.MIT.EDU Cc: cc@ATHENA.MIT.EDU, davis@ATHENA.MIT.EDU, jud@ATHENA.MIT.EDU Date: Thu, 23 May 91 11:11:46 EDT Ithake, the VS II in my office against the left wall, has been having problems with swap space. Typically I will get a console error message "Error in swap" on device ra1b. The block numbers differ on each occasion. The affected process dies, and then the problem reoccurs if I try to rerun the dead program. If I reboot, the problem goes away. I have only seen the problem on ra1b, although I also use ra0b for swap. I suspect that there is a problem in the cables, the disk controller or the power supply. I believe the winchester is OK, because the block numbers keep changing. I can not reboot the next time this occurs, but I would then like to get rapid attention from hotline. Or is there a diagnostic that would exercise ra1b? Since there is nothing but swap out there, there shouldn't be aby problem with running a destructive diagnostic. Thanks. Jud
