prill.mit.edu, one of the afs db servers, will go down for a software
upgrade just before midnight Friday night, bringing it to Athena 8.3.
The outage should last about an hour, and clients may notice timout
messages such as:
afs: Lost contact with volume location server 18.70.0.6
Since prill is syncsite, this outage will force a re-election to take
place, possibly resulting in an slightly longer pause in service than
there was for Tuesday's and Thursday's outages. However, all services
on prill are replicated, so beyond a short pause, there should be no
loss of service.
