The following is a somewhat unusual service call.

The newly deployed Ultra-5 in E40-349, hostname mr-jones, owned by Scott
McGuire (user name smcguire) has a problem. I've isolated it down
pretty far.

The symptom is that Athena doesn't configure the system for 24bit
graphics properly. When I run the utility m64config (which is what we
use to do the configuration), no matter what resolution I specify I get
the error:

m64config: Cannot verify that 1024x768x60 is a supported video
	resolution for this monitor

I plugged in a different monitor, and I tried a different cable but got
these same results.

My current understanding of the situation is that the Ultra-5 works in
all ways but this, but that this is a subtle and serious fault. Perhaps
it's something as simple as a broken wire between the motherboard and
the VGA connector at the back of the box. Maybe the video chip on the
motherboard is a little toasted. Maybe some connector is not seated.

Could someone come by and make an approprate repair?

Please keep me in the loop on this. I'm classifying this as a DOA
system, and am gonna get back to Sun with a QA post-mortem when we know
what actually caused the problem. If all you do is ship the whole
system back to Polaris, give me the polaris ID so I can get Sun to track
it.

If you want me around to show how to do the m68config test to confirm
the repair is successful, that's fine.
