There will be an outage of the Athena servers solar.mit.edu, one
of the Solaris install servers, and nessus.mit.edu, a centrally
maintained NFS server, beginning at 11pm on Friday, 1/14/00 due to a
hardware and software upgrade.
Solaris install service is replicated on solar2.mit.edu, which
will remain available throughout the outage. Sun installs performed
with a floppy, however, will default to solar, and the IP address for
solar2 (18.159.0.21) will need to be entered manually.
The outage of NFS service on nessus should be almost completely
user invisible. Lockers currently stored on nessus are limited to the
mb and clu lockers. The mb locker is limited to Athena User Accounts
and Moira administrator internal use, and the clu locker is believed to
be mostly depricated.
We're scheduling an hour for the outage window, although if all
goes well, service will be restored much more quickly. As always,
notifications of the status of the outage will be sent to the "consult"
zephyr instance.
