I found picus's toner cover ajar, so tried to push it down. It was
wedged against something. I opened the cover, and removed the toner
cartridge. someone had broken off part of the mechanism that lifts the
cover from the shiny bit, so it was unable to lift, and thus the
cartridge could seat correctly. As the cartridge felt full, I removed
the cover and it's wire bit, and put them next to the printer. it
seems to be working fine now.
