Extensive testing of the Central Utilities Plant - Y2K Emergency Power
Generator Testing
system must now take place to commission the new emergency generator and
ready MIT for the Y2K weekend.
Testing of the Central Utilities Plant Emergency Power System will be as
follows:
Monday December 20 9am to 5pm
Wednesday December 22 9am to 5pm
Interruptions to emergency power (exit signs and emergency lighting) will
occur for minimum durations of 10 seconds to maximum durations of 30 minutes
throughout both days. Most durations will be under 5 minutes... but should
some tests initiate system failures, outage duration's could be 30 minutes
before emergency power is restored
Buildings Affected:
1,2,3,4,5,6,6A,7,7A,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,18,24*,26,31,33,34,35,36*,37,38,39
*,50,54,62,64,E17, E18,E19,N9**, N10**.
Notes:
* Buildings 24, 36, 39 have transfer switches that will be placed in
"manual-normal power " by Facilities personnel to avoid multiple transfers
and interruptions.
** Building N9 and N10 will have normal power affected by this testing. All
power in N9 and N10 is presently on the emergency power loop.
The following two motors will be shutdown for the duration of the testing.
Building 31 - 1500 HP Gas Turbine Lab Compressor (Breaker 24A5).
Building 17 - 2000 HP Wind Tunnel Motor (Breaker 24B5).
