weird error on ajax

Ajax keeps getting into a state in which it displays:
55.A.PRINTER ERROR.PRESS GO TO.CONTINUE
on it's front panel. I've tried both pressing "go", and rebooting it -
after pressing go, it blinks the data light for a long time, and after
rebooting it, it will print. Still, the problem comes back every few
jobs. I can't see a particular job that's triggering it.
I haven't down'd it, since load is high, and there's a user who seems
willing to keep rebooting it.
