The Utilities Group has installed a new, larger capacity, emergency diesel
generator at Bldg. 42 (Central Utilities Plant) to power our emergency loop,
stabilize power plant auxiliary electrical equipment needs and provide Y2K
backup.
The new generator requires testing and all buildings on the emergency loop
will be affected and will experience short (approximately 10 second) outages
to emergency lighting and any other equipment on the emergency loop panels.
The affected buildings are:
1,2,3,4,5,6, 6a,7,7a, 8,9,10,11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 18, 24, 26, 31, 33, 34, 35,
36 , 37,38, 39, 50, 54, 62, 64, 66, E1, E3, E18, and E19.
All other buildings not in above list have local emergency generators or
have battery powered emergency lights.
The loads on the emergency loop are in most cases 'life-safety' egress loads
only ..i.e., emergency lighting and exit signs, but also sewage ejectors,
some building controls, fire alarm panels, and some fans.
We propose to perform the testing during normal daytime business hours for
several reasons:
1. Egress lighting is less critical during daylight hours
2. Occupants can report to us any equipment other than egress
lighting that was affected.
3. Occupants can reset and or monitor any critical loads such as
freezers during these times.
4. A full facilities staff is present to resolve any problems that
may arise.
The testing may take several sequences over a three-day period scheduled
approximately between November 29 and December 10th.
We wish to complete the testing and have any technical issues resolved
before Y2K.
