Machine m56-129-13 (a Sparc 5) fails to boot.
The console screen displays error messages:

    INIT: SINGLE USER MODE
    
    ENTER FUN LEVEL (0-6, s or S):


Any attempt to set the run level, though, causes the machine to
prompt again:

    INIT: SINGLE USER MODE
    
    ENTER FUN LEVEL (0-6, s or S):
