Subject: NEW PRINTER SETUP
Hello Computing Help....
My name is Charlie Boppe and I'm setting up a new HP Laserjet 4MV.
Its currently working fine with a network link to my Mac. I'm
trying now to also get my Sun Sparcstation 5 connected to it.
Naomi Schmidt says that you will need the following info... and I
probably need clarification on some items:
Queue name: (The name people use with lpr when they want to print
to this printer).
bigboy
Move or new: (whether this is a move or a new printer)
new
Type of printer: (Serial or Networked)
networked
Print server: (Either a specific machine, or a request to use one
of ops' printservers, in which case we'll decide which of our
servers is appropriate, ops printservers are only available for
networked printers)
we don't think we have a printserver - can we use
an ops printserver?
Spool directory: (only necessary if the print server is not an ops
machine. This is normally /usr/spool/printer/<printername>
see above
Kerberos Auth: (Should ther printer require kerberos
authentication for printing? yes for public clusters) If we ever
go back to printquotas, a price per page will be required too, but
don't worry about that for now.
no
Duplex queue: (should we set up a <printer>2 queue for duplex
printing
no
contact: (any contact info for this printer, preferably including
an e-mail address or phone number)

If it is a networked printer we need to know the following:
Hostname:
lemiserable
IP address:
18.34.0.65
Ethernet address: (sometimes referred to a LAN or hardware address)
18.34.0.65 ? we think....
Physical location: (MIT room number)
Room 33-404
Do you want it to be configured automatically via bootp: (only
available for HP printers or printers connected with HP JetDirect
boxes)
We think auotmatically because it will get both
Unix and Mac stuff
THANKS.
Charlie Boppe
