Hi,
In the bldg 12 cluster there are these metal pieces located underneath
the deskspace between computers. They are at knee height and quite
annoying. The supports for the desks are attached to these metal
pieces which attach to the desks themselves and at each end these
metal pieces stick out considerably far. In fact, they begin at 5.5in
from the edge of the desks and are 2in lower than the height of the
desk. Most people have their knees about 6 to 12 inches away from the
edge of the deskspace (under the desk, though) and 1-4 inches below
the height of the table. Given this, it's easy to injure oneself on
these rather sharp protrusions. They are annoying and I've hit my knee
on them several times. I think it is poor design--the designers
assumed one's attention would always be at one's own
computer. However, the desk space (between computers) is meant to be
used and so I frequently plow my knee into these metal pieces as I
role over to the empty space. I think something really needs to be
done--like covering them with foam. I don't think I'm the only one who
has had problems. If you have any questions please ask me. Thanks!
