  Hello:

The program I was running last night was interupted and killed by a
file server reboot at 06:00 this morning. The message I received said
this was preventative maintenence which would indicate someone had more than
the 59 seconds prior notice that I got. If you had notified me earlier I could
have prevented the data loss, but as it is I lost several hours of valuable
computation time. This is NOT the first time this has happened. Each time I
have sent a message asking for an appropriate warning and have received NO
response. You may think that noone is on the computers at 6AM on Sunday morning
but this is MIT and there are always people on the network. Restarting all
file servers every week is an amateur way of running a network, but if it is
really necessary all it takes is little warning the day before and none of this
would occur.

Sincerely,

Paul
