I found 7 workstations in the Student Center out because of network
problems. Evidently all seven workstations were networked together,
but there was no connection to the campus network... the black cable
from the repeater was just hanging. It looked like a botched attempt
to fix something.
I rewired the workstations to be a proper chain and connected them
back in. I have no idea where the extra terminator came from, but I
put it and an extra barrel connector in the W20 machine room.
This is the second time that I've had to fix this network segment.
For one thing, the setup is kind of confusing, because the repeater
section starts in the middle of the row, goes to the end, and then
goes back to the other end. The other thing is that some of the wires
look pretty grungy. I would suggest that somebody come with a few
variable length cables, and rewire it from scratch.
