The Athena workstation in building 14N room 306 ("pronto") is having
problems. The screen shows the "screen saver" "Press any key" moving
around as usual, but the keyboard doesn't respond. After trying to
get the keyboard to work for a while (mainly just holding down the
"stop" button) the login screen appeared, and the terminal proceeded
to "beep" at me for about 3 solid minutes, as though it was
remembering and rejecting about 1000 consecutive keystrokes. During
this time, as I moved the cursor around the screen, it would leave
trails on the desktop, so eventually the screen was populated with a
community of distorted "X"s. When the beeping stopped the keyboard
still would not respond (all physical connections seem normal), and
the "screen saver" returned a minute later, i.e. back to square one.

I have no idea what to do about this. I can't even get an ok prompt,
or get the keyboard to work at all. Please advise, or send someone
over to check it out.

Thanks

-Andrew, 3-4771
